LanzaJet Secures Industry-Leading, Innovative Financing with Microsoft Climate Innovation Fund to Construct the World’s First Commercial Alcohol-to-Jet Sustainable Fuel Plant

LanzaJet

Today, LanzaJet, a sustainable fuels technology company and renewable fuels producer, announced it has secured financing for its Freedom Pines Fuels plant in Soperton, Georgia, through the Microsoft Climate Innovation Fund. The Microsoft Climate Innovation Fund has made a $50M investment to support the construction of LanzaJet's (and the world's) first alcohol-to-jet sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production plant. The innovative structure of Microsoft's financing will enable LanzaJet to bring lower-cost sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel to the global market. LanzaJet is dedicated to accelerating the energy transition in sectors where decarbonization is hard, such as aviation. LanzaJet produces SAF and renewable diesel from low-carbon, sustainable ethanol sources. This investment also creates the opportunity for LanzaJet and the Microsoft Climate Innovation Fund to work together in enabling LanzaJet, through the Freedom Pines Fuels plant, to catalyze the market for 2 nd generation, waste-based ethanol feedstock, demonstrating clear demand signals for ethanol that can achieve greater carbon reductions. The construction of Freedom Pines Fuels is progressing as planned, even with supply chain, manufacturing, and labor shortages impacting the global economy. Fabrication of the plant is well underway; some modules are already completed and final site engineering is nearing completion. The LanzaJet Freedom Pines Fuels plant is expected to achieve mechanical completion this year and begin producing 10 million gallons of SAF and renewable diesel per year from sustainable ethanol, including from waste-based feedstocks, in 2023. The investment was made as part of Microsoft's efforts to achieve its 2030 goal of becoming carbon negative and advancing a net-zero economy. It also allows Microsoft to access sustainable, renewable diesel for its data centers to enable Microsoft to further achieve its net-zero goals. Demand for sustainable fuels is increasing, and governments like those in the United States and the United Kingdom are leading the transition by encouraging sustainable fuel production. The Biden administration set a goal for achieving net-zero aviation emissions by 2050, with the E.U. wanting to increase the amount of SAF blended to 63% by 2050. In September of 2021, the White House announced a target of 3 billion gallons of SAF produced per year by 2030. As part of that announcement, LanzaJet shared it would strive to achieve 1B gallons of SAF production in the US by 2030, significantly supporting US ambitions. Private sector investment and government support are crucial to enabling the development and scale-up of new technologies to curb carbon emissions as the world tackles climate change. The collaboration between LanzaJet and the Microsoft Climate Innovation Fund demonstrates that such an innovative investment approach breaks down barriers by deploying new technologies, improves our nation's infrastructure, and creates new economic opportunities in rural communities. The development of LanzaJet’s Freedom Pines Fuels plant is also supported by funding from the U.S. Department of Energy Bioenergy Technologies Office. LanzaJet continues to work with its founding investors to scale up the production of sustainable fuels to meet global demand and to enable the energy transition underway. Microsoft's financial support of LanzaJet joins other LanzaJet funders including LanzaTech, Inc., Suncor Energy Inc., Mitsui & Co., Ltd., British Airways, Shell, and All Nippon Airways – all who are working together to catalyze and build a new global market for sustainable fuels. Jimmy Samartzis, LanzaJet CEO, said: "We know that creating the change which our world desperately needs requires perseverance, innovation, and like-minded partnerships. We are thrilled to bring on Microsoft and its Climate Innovation Fund to help us build our first-of-its-kind sustainable fuels plant in Georgia. The partnership with Microsoft is more than just financing – it advances our work towards net zero fuels, it enables lower-cost sustainable fuels into the market, and it supports the urgency to have real, proven technologies scale-up and deploy." "We set a bold ambition to support the White House with a goal of 1 billion gallons of sustainable fuels by 2030. With Microsoft's support, this first plant significantly expands the production of sustainable fuels in the US, establishes Georgia as a leader in cleantech, and is the foundation for us as the first alcohol-to-jet sustainable fuels producer, and as a blueprint for the commercial plants we're developing globally." Brandon Middaugh of Microsoft's Climate Innovation Fund said: "With this investment, we support LanzaJet in creating new pathways to help companies across industries achieve net-zero carbon through the use of sustainable fuels. Decarbonizing hard to abate industries and technologies will be essential to achieving our carbon reduction goals by 2030. We look forward to working with LanzaJet to accelerate the global development and deployment of high-quality, sustainable fuels technologies." Governor Brian P. Kemp (Georgia), said: “LanzaJet is adding to Georgia’s growing sustainability ecosystem with the development of their aviation fuel and renewable diesel products,” said Georgia Governor Brian P. Kemp. “We congratulate LanzaJet, Microsoft, Soperton, and Treutlen County on this innovative opportunity. We’re proud that they’re growing in Georgia’s pro-business environment, and we look forward to working with them to support their production goals in the future.” U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff (Georgia), said: "This is good news for Georgia. My vision remains that Georgia should lead the nation in clean energy and renewable energy technology — including sustainable aviation fuels. I brought the Secretary of Energy to visit the LanzaJet site last year, and I will continue working to promote clean energy technology and create Georgia jobs.” U.S. Representative Rick Allen (GA-12), said: “This is great news for Georgia’s 12th District as it will enable continued investment and workforce development in Soperton. I applaud LanzaJet on today’s announcement, which is the result of free markets and innovation at work.” State Senator Blake Tillery (Vidalia-19), said: “We are continually working on jobs and investment in rural Georgia and are excited about what this announcement today means for Treutlen County and the surrounding areas.” About LanzaJet LanzaJet, Inc. is the world’s alcohol-to-jet technology leader and producer of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and Renewable Diesel (RD) from ethanol. LanzaJet’s alcohol-to-jet technology has been in development for more than a decade through a partnership initially between LanzaTech and the US Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Lab (PNNL). PNNL developed a unique catalytic process to upgrade ethanol to alcohol-to-jet synthetic paraffinic kerosene (ATJ-SPK) which LanzaTech took from the laboratory to pilot scale. LanzaJet is now commercially deploying the technology globally. Launched in June 2020, LanzaJet produces SAF and renewable diesel for hard to decarbonize sectors such as transportation including aviation and maritime. With its approach to the commercialization of SAF, LanzaJet creates regional jobs while enabling global decarbonization of the aviation sector. The LanzaJet process can use any source of low CI, sustainable ethanol for fuel production. Investors include LanzaTech, Inc. - the world’s carbon recycling leader and sponsor that spun out LanzaJet, Suncor Energy Inc. - Canada's leading integrated energy company, British Airways - the flag carrier airline of the United Kingdom, Shell – a global energy company, and Mitsui & Co., Ltd – a leading Japanese trading and investment company. College of DuPage MPTV Student Produces Annual Fundraising Video for Spay Illinois

College of DuPage

College of DuPage Motion Picture and Television (MPTV) program student David Roudebush recently wrote, produced and directed a five-minute public service announcement highlighting Spay Illinois, a non-profit organization providing low-cost care to pet owners facing financial hardship. “It was my first time doing anything like this,” he said. “I learned on the spot and soaked in every last bit. That sometimes meant working 14-hour days, but it was worth it because it’s not really work when you love what you do.” Roudebush was approached by COD MPTV Professor Tony Venezia earlier in the semester to see if he would be interested in spearheading the video project to help Spay Illinois raise funds for their annual giving campaign. “I jumped at the opportunity because being able to use what I’m learning in the classroom for a professional client would be invaluable experience,” he said. “I also knew that I was passionate about Spay’s mission, and the more I talked to their staff, the more I felt a connection to the organization.” Roudebush got a chance to experience firsthand what goes into making a professional production from start to finish. As the writer, producer, director and editor for the project, he spent weeks planning every meticulous detail, including the technical aspects like lighting and sound, as well as creating a story arch and an emotional hook. “I had to think about what was going to land the ultimate goal of getting this organization the critical funds that they needed to help more pet owners in need,” he said. “I wanted to give the client something that was professional grade and reflected their mission statement.” Once Roudebush found a willing client whose dog’s life was saved when Spay Illinois stepped in to help, his vision came to life. Through firsthand storytelling, Roudebush’s finished product was an emotional and raw video that helped the non-profit organization reach its year-end fundraising goal. Venezia said he was impressed with the professionalism Roudebush displayed throughout the project. “I am highly impressed with the artistry of the project and David’s drive and dedication to his work,” he said. “The camera work is extraordinary and fully supports the message of the video. I also am impressed with the professionalism, care and involvement from everyone involved, including the staff from Spay. Excellent, amazing, professional work from all sides.” Roudebush credits his success on the project to his experience at COD. “At the end of the day, having COD as a resource and a safe place gave me the confidence that I could be successful working on a professional grade project that involved wearing multiple hats,” he said. “COD has really prepared me for what’s to come. I had this level of confidence that’s been missing for a long time.” Watch Roudebush’s fundraising video he produced for Spay Illinois. Finding Purpose at COD Roudebush enrolled in COD’s MTPV program at age 29 after spending nearly a decade working a variety of jobs. “Before finding my way at COD, I never thought I could made money off of dream jobs,” he said. “But one night I was watching the credits of a movie and saw that there were hundreds of names scrolling down the screen from lighting designers to photographers to writers. With the rise in streaming platforms, the needs of a crew are only going to grow, so I figured why not try it. When I finally got to COD, the MPTV department was able to provide me resources, knowledge and a safe place to explore my craft. And I’m still learning. I signed up for another semester because I truly don’t want to leave.” Eager to gain as much experience as possible, Roudebush began working as a student worker in the MPTV department helping students learn various multimedia equipment and assist students with studio rentals. “Working in the department allows me to have a center seat at the table,” he said. “The students that are the most successful are the ones that, like myself, completely commit to what COD has to offer. It’s about showing engagement with what is possible here. At a commuter school it’s so easy to come and leave, but getting involved is so important.” Hear more about Roudebush’s experience in COD’s MPTV program. Altais invests directly in physician practices, clinics and related business models. In 2020, Brown & Toland Physicians, a network of more than 2,700 independent physicians in the San Francisco Bay Area, joined the Altais family of companies. Los Angeles’ Family Care Specialists, one of the largest community-based and Latinx-led private medical groups in California, joined Altais in December 2021. Altais also has two independent primary care clinics serving essential civic employees and educators in the Monterey-Salinas market. Recent studies show the greater Riverside community may have a deficit of up to 1,000 physicians to serve a growing Riverside County population of well over 2 million residents. Altais Medical Group Riverside aims to address that shortage by providing a new model of independent practice that, in time, can serve to attract more healthcare professionals to the region. “Altais is proud to launch this new medical practice group in Riverside County,” said Jeff Bailet, M.D., president and chief executive officer for Altais. “Over the past decade, the healthcare field generally and the Riverside community in particular – has experienced unprecedented levels of physician burnout and early retirements. Independent physicians have been overwhelmed by the administrative demands of maintaining their practices. Altais’ mission is to focus on reversing that trend and provide independent physicians with the business practices and technologies that help them not just endure but thrive during this difficult period and beyond. We are excited to bring that vision of medical practice vibrancy to reality in Riverside.” * * * ABOUT ALTAIS Altais is a healthcare services company that helps physicians and the clinical community maximize the health and well-being of their patients in an affordable and sustainable way. DealMaker

DealMaker, a data-driven capital raising technology platform, today announced a new partnership with Wavemaker Labs, a first-in-class global corporate venture studio and product development incubator focused on big data, artificial intelligence, and robotics. “We’re excited to formalize our work with Wavemaker through this partnership,” said Mike Werry, vice president of sales at Dealmaker, “Our collective success demonstrates the value our technology brings to organizations seeking to raise capital and illustrates how quickly our industry is changing. Progressive firms like Wavemaker are seeing the benefits of launching marketed, self-hosted raises for their clients.” Wavemaker will partner with DealMaker to help their clients raise additional capital after their own initial investment. Additionally, Wavemaker will continue to be a key advisory partner for DealMaker, using the insights from countless successful retail financings to shape future technology solutions. “Self-hosted raises equip our portfolio clients with expanded options to raise the capital they need to grow at scale while building community,” said Kevin Morris, CFO of Wavemaker Labs, “We are always looking to partner with disruptive companies like DealMaker. They are the best at what they do and their platform provides our clients with the tools they need for success.” +++ About DealMaker DealMaker is on a mission to create the most sophisticated capital markets tools on the planet, empowering capital to flow faster.
