INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE LEADERS LAUNCH A GLOBAL PLEDGE TO TRUST SCIENCE

International Day of Light Steering Committee

Ahead of this year’s International Day of Light celebration on 16 May, the International Day of Light Steering Committee announces the launch of the Trust Science pledge, a worldwide campaign to promote support for the scientific process and to acknowledge the many benefits of science for society. Crises such as the coronavirus pandemic demonstrate the importance of scientific research and remind us how much we depend on dedicated professionals to find evidence-based solutions to global challenges. To recognize the central role played by science in society, the Trust Science pledge invites the general public to join leading scientists worldwide to affirm confidence in the process of scientific research and discovery. To date, the pledge has seen enthusiastic support worldwide with founding signatories including Nobel laureates, UNESCO L’Oréal For Women in Science prize winners, Presidents and CEOs of major scientific bodies, as well as scientists and students from more than 20 different countries. The pledge is now being shared widely to invite all interested individuals to take part. The Trust Science pledge states: “Trust in evidence-based, scientific facts is essential for providing sustainable solutions to today’s challenges. By adding my name to this declaration and pledge, I recognize the key role that scientific research and discovery plays in improving quality of life for all.” The Trust Science campaign is organized by the IEEE Photonics Society, SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, and The Optical Society (OSA), together with the International Day of Light Steering Committee. “The events of the past year have spotlighted science’s crucial role in solving critical global problems,” said Steering Committee Chair John Dudley from the Université Bourgogne Franche-Comté in France. “This campaign will allow people around the world to join us in affirming support for science and the scientific process. We encourage all to sign, and our hope is that this will stimulate valuable discussions within families, at the workplace and in educational settings.” In the context of the International Day of Light, the campaign will also highlight a number of Champions, research leaders in broad areas of light science and technology, including solar energy, the study of cultural heritage and healthcare. COMCAST’S INTERNET ESSENTIALS PROGRAM CONNECTED MORE THAN 480,000 LOW-INCOME COLORADANS TO THE INTERNET OVER THE PAST 10 YEARS

Mountain West

A year after Coloradans had to shift their lives to working and learning remotely, Comcast announced more than 480,000 lower income Coloradans were connected to the power of a home internet connection through its signature Internet Essentials program since 2011. Internet Essentials is Comcast’s signature digital equity initiative and the nation’s largest and most comprehensive broadband adoption program, providing eligible individuals with high-speed home Internet service for $9.95 per month as well as digital skills training. This year marks the 10th anniversary of Internet Essentials, and Comcast recently announced it is investing $1 billion nationwide over the next 10 years to help further close the digital divide and give even more low-income Americans the tools and resources they need to succeed in an increasingly digital world. The announcement coincides with the release of a 10-year Progress Report showing that, since 2011, the company, working in collaboration with its network of thousands of nonprofit partners, connected a cumulative total of more than 10 million people in America to broadband Internet at home, the overwhelming majority of whom were not connected prior to signing up. "The Internet Essentials program has made school very easy,” said Janeaya Ramos, 17-year-old Denver resident. “I don’t have to stress. When we didn’t have internet in the past, me and my sister would have to go to the library or McDonalds or something. Now that we have internet, we don’t have to worry about finding a ride somewhere, we don’t have to worry about being able to do our schoolwork.” Comcast’s $1 billion commitment will include investments in a number of critical areas, including: additional support for its ongoing Lift Zone initiative, which establishes WiFi-connected safe spaces in 1,000+ community centers nationwide for students and adults by the end of 2021; new laptop and computer donations; grants for nonprofit community organizations to create opportunities for low-income Americans, particularly in media, technology, and entrepreneurship; and continued investment in the company’s landmark Internet Essentials program. It is estimated these new commitments will impact as many as 50 million Americans over the next 10 years. In 2021 alone, Comcast estimates students will be able to complete more than 25 million hours of remote learning lessons to further address the “homework gap” at the hundreds of Lift Zone locations that have already opened or will open soon. In Colorado, more than 30 Lift Zone locations are serving people throughout the state, and more will be open by the end of the year. “Ten years is a remarkable milestone, signifying an extraordinary amount of work and collaboration with community and education partners across Colorado,” said Amy Lynch, Sr. Vice President, Comcast Mountain West Region. “Together, we connected hundreds of thousands of people to the power of the Internet at home, and to the endless opportunity, education, growth, and discovery it provides. Our work is not done, and we are committed to ensuring the next generation of students in Colorado has the tools, resources, and abilities they need to succeed in an increasingly digital world.” “Our partnership with Comcast is a very complementary partnership,” said Maurice Henson, Director of Operations at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Pikes Peak Region. “Our goal at the club is to give kids opportunities that they might not otherwise have, and Comcast with their Internet Essentials program is doing that same thing.” “For more than a decade, Mile High United Way and Comcast have been partners in this initiative,” said Christine Benero, President and CEO of Mile High United Way. “We continue to partner with Comcast to bring internet to more communities through equipping neighborhood-based Lift Zones at community centers across the state with free WiFi to support distance learning.” In addition to capturing the total number of connections Internet Essentials has provided, the 10-Year Progress Report highlights other key metrics about the program, including: Increased the program’s Internet speeds six times, from 1.5 Mbps in 2011 to 50 Mbps today, without ever increasing the price of the program, which remains $9.95/month. Launched its Lift Zones program, which aims to connect more than 1,000 community centers across the country – and more than 50 in Colorado -- with free WiFi by the end of 2021. Developed an Internet Essentials Partnership Program with more than 20 schools, school districts, and other organizations in Colorado to help connect thousands of students to the Internet during the COVID-19 pandemic. Offered 60 days of free Internet service through at least June 30, 2021 to any new Internet Essentials customer who needed to get online during the coronavirus outbreak. Expanded the number of languages our Internet Essentials call center agents can speak to more than 240, plus American Sign Language, to help ensure we break down language barriers that can prevent people from applying or getting online. Built up an online learning center that includes more than 200 digital literacy training videos, guides, and reports that are free to anyone to use, including non-customers. Developed an employee network of 3,000 Internet Essentials Ambassadors who volunteer their time to help spread the word about the program in their communities. About Internet Essentials Internet Essentials is Comcast’s signature digital equity initiative and the nation’s largest and most comprehensive broadband adoption program. In 10 years, it has helped connect 10 million low-income Americans to broadband Internet at home, most for the very first time. Internet Essentials has a comprehensive design that addresses each of the three major barriers to broadband adoption. This includes: multiple options to access free digital literacy training in print, online, and in person; the option to purchase a heavily subsidized, low-cost Internet-ready computer; and low-cost, high-speed Internet service for $9.95 a month, plus tax. The program is structured as a partnership between Comcast and tens of thousands of school districts, libraries, elected officials, and nonprofit community partners. COMCAST COMMITS TO INVESTING $1 BILLION OVER NEXT 10 YEARS TO REACH 50 MILLION LOW-INCOME AMERICANS WITH TOOLS AND RESOURCES TO SUCCEED IN DIGITAL WORLD

Mountain West

On the 10th anniversary of its Internet Essentials program, Comcast announced it will invest $1 billion over the next 10 years to further close the digital divide and give more low-income Americans needed tools and resources to succeed in an increasingly digital world. Collaborating with its network of thousands of nonprofit partners for 10 years, Comcast has connected broadband Internet at home in America to more than 10 million people, the overwhelming majority of whom were not connected prior to signing up. “Ten years is a remarkable milestone, signifying an extraordinary amount of collaboration with our incredible community partners across Utah,” said Deneiva Knight, director of external affairs at Comcast. “Together, we have been able to connect tens of thousands of Utahns to the power of the Internet at home and to the endless opportunity, education, growth, and discovery it provides. Today, we are rededicating ourselves to this mission to ensure the next generation of students in Utah has the tools, resources, and abilities to succeed in an increasingly digital world.” Comcast’s $1 billion commitment will include investments in several critical areas, including: additional support for the Lift Zone initiative, which establishes WiFi-connected safe spaces in 35 community centers in Utah and 1,000+ community centers nationwide for students and adults by the end of 2021; new laptop and computer donations; grants for nonprofit community organizations to create opportunities for low-income Utahns, particularly in media, technology, and entrepreneurship; and continued investment in the company’s landmark Internet Essentials program. These new commitments will impact an estimated 50 million Americans over the next 10 years, including hundreds of thousands of Utahns. In 2021 alone, Comcast estimates students across America will complete more than 25 million hours of remote learning lessons to further address the “homework gap” at the hundreds of Lift Zone locations that have already opened or will open soon. “Comcast’s investment in Utah’s digital connectivity future is remarkable,” said Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox. “Helping to close the digital divide so everyone has Internet access in Utah is paramount.” The effects of the pandemic have permeated all levels of learning and access to resources for many Utahns. One group facing challenges is U.S. refugees. “The International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Salt Lake City has been partnering with Comcast for a few years now and it’s been an incredible partnership. We’ve been using Internet Essentials for our clients for many years,” said Krysti Nellermore, IRC education program supervisor. “Comcast expanded [the program] in the last year which has been a great opportunity for more of our clients to use the program.” Abderahim Idriss and his family of eight -- living in Utah -- are one of those families. Before relocating to the U.S., Idriss was a teacher. Now he works on a packing production line but would like to find a job teaching again at some point. “[Internet Essentials] really helped us. My wife and I are able to find a lot more videos for English practice, and the kids are able to do research for school. It has made a lot more things accessible for us,” said Abderahim Idriss. “From its beginning, Comcast’s Internet Essentials program has transformed more than 8 million lives by connecting low-income households to the power of broadband,” said Knight. “While the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has placed a spotlight on the digital divide, for the past decade Comcast has been leading the effort to close the digital divide, address the homework gap, and ensure low-income communities have the necessary digital skills.” Comcast’s 10-year progress report highlights other key metrics about the Internet Essentials program, including having: Increased the program’s Internet speeds six times, from 1.5 Mbps in 2011 to 50 Mbps today, without ever increasing the price of the program, which has remained at $9.95/month Launched its Lift Zones program, which will connect 35 Utah community centers with free WiFi by the end of 2021; Developed an Internet Essentials Partnership Program that has signed up 160,000 individuals throughout Utah, including schools, school districts, and other organizations that have helped connect tens of thousands of students to the Internet during the pandemic; Offered 60 days of free Internet service to new Internet Essentials customers who needed to get online during the coronavirus outbreak; Expanded the number of languages our Internet Essentials call center agents can speak to more than 240, plus American Sign Language, to help ensure we break down language barriers that can prevent people from applying or getting online; Built up an online learning center that includes more than 200 digital literacy training videos, guides, and reports that are free to anyone to use, including non-customers; and Developed an employee network of 3,000 Internet Essentials Ambassadors who volunteer their time to help spread the word about the program in their communities. Executive Producer Steve Gaçonnier at W And W Digital, LLC, discussed the announcement during a live broadcast from Dallas, Texas on Friday, April 9th, 4:20 pm 2021. “We are fortunate to have American guitar legend Jimmy Vivino as our host for this series. Who better to talk to musicians and industry titans then than someone that eats, breathes, sleeps and of course… plays music.”, Gaçonnier shared with a smile. Jimmy Vivino leads the BASIC CABLE BAND, the house band on the CONAN O’BRIEN SHOW and has played with everyone from Levon Helm to Ringo Starr. Tune in to Jimmy and company as he shares stories from The Green Room launching April 20, 2021 on WeedAndWhiskeyNews.com and on The Green Room’s You Tube channel April 21, 2021. Jimmy explained his take on the talk show and why it’s called The Green Room, “The green room has a special place in my heart. I met a lot of people through the green room, I had a lot of great conversations… from BB King to Ringo Starr to Al Green to Bonnie Rait t to Gore Vidal, politicians, musicians, writers…" “In my experience of 28 years in television, more happens in the green room than happens on the air. When you work in television, people have 5 minutes… but in the green room more time is spent talking. We’d like to bring that atmosphere of the green room to this show. Where we’re not looking at a clock or a commercial coming up or anything, we’re just talking. We could be talking about anything. I could have Slash on there and we could talk about horror films for the whole time, so be ready." Executive Producer Steve Gaçonnier is producing the series along with Executive Producer Jerry Joyner of Weed And Whiskey News. Involved in promoting Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Teddy Pendergrass, Ridley Scott, Mike Meyers, Helen Hunt, Michael Douglas, Mick Fleetwood and so many more. Shep is now a father with the birth of his son, Benjamin. We’ll learn how Shep has provided over 3 million meals to Maui’s hungry and his philosophy for success. Caliber Embarks on Private Build-to-Suit School Expansion with Rancho Solano Preparatory School

Caliber Co.

CaliberCos Inc., a fully integrated real estate company, announced today a significant milestone within Caliber. The Company has embarked on a school expansion in Scottsdale, Arizona that will benefit the community and should serve as an attractive investment for its Opportunity Zone investors. Caliber recently closed on the acquisition of Rancho Solano Preparatory School, a 26,646 square foot property in Scottsdale, Arizona. The total project cost is $11.5 million and is the first venture Caliber has invested in since the pandemic started in March 2020. $4.5 million in equity was offered with Caliber’s Qualified Opportunity Zone Fund leading the investment, which was maxed out within three weeks of the offering. Commenting on the transaction, Chris Loeffler, Co-Founder and CEO of Caliber stated, “The impact from the current pandemic has touched every part of the global economy, and education has not gone untouched. Now, more than ever, there is higher demand for private education as many private schools remained opened throughout the pandemic. These institutions are providing a needed resource for parents who are unable to effectively home-school their children. Caliber’s open architecture allowed investors in our Fund, high-net worth direct investors, and a respected family office to combine forces and provide the necessary capital to build this asset for the community.” As a result of the increased demand, Caliber will construct a new campus for Rancho Solano. In conjunction with this construction project, Rancho Solano will close its small, North Scottsdale facility and consolidate it with the existing main campus in Central Scottsdale. The new campus expansion will serve all grades pre-K through 12th grade. In addition, there is an excess piece of land that is adjacent to the school that could lead to another project. Rancho Solano will lease the space from Caliber for a period of 20 years with a 10-year option. Upon receipt of occupancy, Rancho Solano will be given the option to purchase the building and will be offered that option again after the first and second years. Caliber believes that this project will produce positive cash flow as well as create attractive asset appreciation for its Opportunity Zone Fund investors. Additional information on the project can be found on Caliber’s website at Rancho Solano - Caliber (caliberco.com). Caliber is seeking additional schools with a desire to expand into Qualified Opportunity Zone locations throughout the Southwest and Mountainwest matching the goals of long-term investors to the needs of local communities.
