Understanding the Importance of Lowering Your Cholesterol to Help Decrease Your Risk for Heart Disease

YourUpdateTV

A video accompanying this announcement is available at: https://youtu.be/_EQumoCuW6U High cholesterol is the single biggest cause of illness and death in America affecting more than 94 million adults in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. For some people, it is their genes that lead to very high LDL (“bad”) cholesterol. One of the most common causes of genetically high cholesterol is familial hypercholesterolemia (FH). FH impacts 1 in 250 individuals worldwide, and if untreated it leads to early heart attacks and strokes. There are already decades of research showing that high LDL cholesterol is a major risk factor for heart disease. And recent data has shown that having lower LDL for longer is one of the best things people can do to reduce your risk for heart disease. While a healthy diet and exercise are important for many reasons, diet and exercise alone cannot lower many people’s cholesterol to a safe level, especially if they have a genetic cholesterol-related disorder. There are medications that can significantly reduce the level of cholesterol in the bloodstream. Statins are the first line of defense when it comes to getting your LDL-cholesterol to a safer level. A new study on the safety and effectiveness of statins shows the vast majority of people do not have side effects from statins, and they not only reduce the LDL cholesterol, they also reduce the risk for heart attacks and cardiac death. The American College of Cardiology also just updated its expert guidance for medical experts treating patients and suggested an LDL target of less than 55 mg/dL for individuals with established cardiovascular disease. The Family Heart Foundation has a variety of resources for understanding treatment options for lowering high cholesterol and treating FH. Visit MoreFamiliesMoreHearts.org to learn more. Development of New Drugs to Target Lyme and Other Infectious Diseases Subject of a New Webinar Now Available From Quidel Corporation

Quidel Corporation

Lyme disease is the fastest-growing vector-borne disease in the United States, and its increased prevalence is challenging the scientific community to look for new ways to diagnose and treat this worrisome infection. One answer is found in the discovery of novel drugs; and the breakthrough efforts taking place in this arena are the subject of a new webinar made available by Quidel Corporation, the California-based diagnostic health care manufacturer known for successfully developing rapid diagnostic health solutions. The 90-minute webinar, available free at https://education.quidel.com/category/lyme-disease, will explain what a small molecule drug is and how it works, identify the methods used to unearth a new drug by high-throughput screening, and discuss how to recognize the complexities involved in developing a new drug for infectious disease in general. It will also provide an overview as to the current antibiotics used for treating Lyme disease and explore how powerful new drugs—novel inhibitors—can selectively target Borrelia burgdorferi (the bacterium that causes Lyme disease). The webinar is PACE-accredited and sponsored in collaboration with Global Lyme Alliance. Conducting the webinar is Timothy Haystead, Ph.D., professor of pharmacology and cancer biology at Duke University School of Medicine. Dr. Haystead’s current research is focused on the use of chemical biology approaches to define novel drug targets. These drug targets are focused on the treatment of hypertension, obesity, cancer, inflammatory and infectious disease. Dr. Haystead received his Ph.D. from the University of Dundee, Scotland; and he completed post-doctoral work in pharmacology at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, University of Washington, Seattle. The new webinar is the latest in an ongoing series sponsored by Quidel that has featured noted scientists, researchers and physicians discussing issues surrounding the prevalence of Lyme disease in America, including ways to reduce the chances of infection, early detection and treatment options. The timing and relevance for these webinars is particularly important as Lyme disease is on the rise to record numbers with approximately 476,000 new cases annually in the United States alone. Quidel is the diagnostic health care manufacturer behind the industry’s most rapid and reliable in-office test for Lyme disease, Sofia ® 2 Lyme FIA. It is the only FDA-cleared rapid point-of-care test on the market, which provides the patient and physician with indicative results in as few as three minutes, as opposed to days, which has historically been the norm (and during which time organisms can spread and become systemic). It can be performed in the privacy of a doctor’s office or local clinic; and it is the only test that can get results from a simple finger prick of blood. About Quidel Corporation Quidel Corporation (Nasdaq: QDEL) is a leading manufacturer of diagnostic solutions at the point of care, delivering a continuum of rapid testing technologies that further improve the quality of health care throughout the globe. An innovator for over 40 years in the medical device industry, Quidel pioneered the first FDA-cleared point-of-care test for influenza in 1999 and was the first to market a rapid SARS-CoV-2 antigen test in the U.S. Under trusted brand names, Sofia®, Solana®, Lyra®, Triage® and QuickVue®, Quidel’ s comprehensive product portfolio includes tests for a wide range of infectious diseases, cardiac and autoimmune biomarkers, as well as a host of products to detect COVID-19. Companies Are Reporting Dropping Degree Requirements And Shifting To Skill-Based Hiring, But Credibility Still Looms As An Issue — A Boon For Edtech Platform Players Like Amesite (NASDAQ: AMST)?

Amesite Inc.

Learn More about Amesite Inc. by gaining access to the latest research report The talent shortage just in the information technology (IT) and cybersecurity industries has put pressure on already-overwhelmed IT businesses. An estimated 3.5 million cybersecurity jobs went unfilled in 2021 worldwide. The overall number of job openings in June was 10.7 million compared to 5.9 million unemployed, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. This leaves a record 4.8 million openings to be filled. A Solution? To address the talent shortage, a growing number of companies are saying that they are reevaluating their hiring preference by removing a bachelor’s degree as a prerequisite for middle-skill or even higher-skill roles. A recent study by Harvard Business Review and Lightcast analyzed over 51 million job postings between 2019 and 2021 and discovered that employers are dropping a bachelor’s degree as a requirement for middle-skilled and some higher-skilled jobs. IBM Corp. (NYSE: IBM) is ahead of its peers in terms of stripping degree requirements for job positions. Only 29% of the company’s IT positions require a bachelor’s degree. While Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) and Alphabet Inc. ’s (NASDAQ: GOOGL) Google seem to show a heavy preference for degrees in their positions, the two tech companies are recognized for their notable progress. Between 2017 and 2021, positions requiring a degree at Apple were down 18% while they were down by 17%, according to the Harvard Business Review report. What Are Companies Looking For? In place of a four-year college degree, many enterprises, including the government, are shifting to skill-based and competency-based hiring to widen the talent pool. In June 2020 and January 2021, the White House announced limits on using educational requirements and adopting a skill-based approach when hiring federal job candidates. A number of IT companies have made public statements on stripping degree requirements for their job openings, with Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ: META) CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT) Co-Founder Bill Gates are examples of what someone can achieve without a degree. “We don’t care if you have a degree, we just care if you can code,” is a popular mantra among Silicon Valley tech executives. Companies are using upskilling and reskilling existing employees as a solution for lessening the talent supply-demand imbalance. Accenture plc (NYSE: ACN) Senior Managing Director Pallavi Verma says the company spends close to $1 billion each year in learning and professional development for its employees. However, a recurring problem with upskilling and non-degree-based learning is credibility. It can be difficult for companies to analyze credentials and skills if there are limited standards across a multitude of learning options — and learners themselves have to decide among what programs will help them actually stand out. Amesite Inc. (NASDAQ: AMST) is an ed-tech player with a unique twist, it creates custom learning platforms for universities, companies, and government organizations so that the credibility of the institutions it works with is inherent in the end product. When COVID-19 hit in 2020, museums around the world were forced to close. It was during this time that many museums transitioned to delivering their content via the internet. For example, Conner Prairie, a history museum in Indiana partnered with Amesite to provide a new online learning ecosystem. Amesite’s Online Learning Community Environment system™ will offer K-12 programs for teachers, parents, lifelong learners and students. With Amesite collaborating with various colleges and universities, students who want to further their studies can enroll in programs of their choice without accumulating thousands of dollars in college debt. Additionally, companies can host in-house white labeled upskilling initiatives that give them control of the content, and the students all the credibility they may need. KISS: Where Dreams Take Wings

KIIT

September 8 was unlike any other day for the students of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) in Bhubaneswar, India. There was a discernible excitement among the students since morning. For, they had been informed to collect at the campus playground for a special announcement. KISS was more than an institute for these indigenous students coming from remote and far-flung areas. It held a special place for them. KISS was a destination of hope, a place which gave them a sense of liberation from despair and a home where they could discover their identities. As the clock struck 5 in the evening, Dr Achyuta Samanta, educationist and founder of KISS, joined the students at the playground along with the teachers. “My dear students, you would be delighted to know that KISS has won the UNESCO Literacy Prize for 2022. My congratulations to you all and to the teachers and staff who have made this possible. This is the highest honour that this institute can get. It cannot get sweeter than this,” he declared in his inimitable style as the crowd burst into celebration. The award was presented at a global award ceremony organised by UNESCO in Côte d’Ivoire on September 8 on the occasion of International Literacy Day and was received by a key functionary of the institute. The evening of September 8 went down as a momentous occasion for the institute, a historic day for KISS that has redefined education imparted to the indigenous students in the State of Odisha and in other parts of India that are dominated by the indigenous population. Today it has transformed into the largest institute for indigenous students in the world. The prestigious UNESCO King Sejong Literacy Prize 2022 was conferred upon KISS for its outstanding literacy programme. The institute was nominated following the recommendations of an international jury. The Prize was sponsored by the Government of the Republic of Korea in recognition of the contributions to mother language-based literacy development. KISS received the award in the category of ‘Mother Tongue Based Multilingual Education’ programme’. It carried an endowment of US$ 20,000, a medal and a diploma. The Visionary: Dr Achyuta Samanta Along with the students, the UNESCO honour was a big moment as well for Dr Samanta. The emotion associated with it was ineffable. Years ago, he had dreamt to build an institute that could impart education to unprivileged children who remained separated from the mainstream, ignorant and disengaged. His unwavering determination to work for their cause had developed from his early days spent in abject poverty. He had seen from close quarters how poverty consumes people into a state of hopelessness. He could realise that education held the only hope to succeed in life. He proved it to himself and decided to set up KISS to offer education to the indigenous population for their social uplift. The indigenous groups constitute about 28 per cent of Odisha’s total population. It was Dr Samanta’s untiring effort and emphasis on quality that KISS was conferred the status of a Deemed-to-be-University by Govt of India. It offers free education, boarding and other supporting infrastructure for the holistic development of the children. It offers education from Kinder Garten to Post Graduate and PhD levels. The institute is home to 40,000 students while 30,000 have passed out since its establishment in 1992-93. In 2007, the Rugby Team of KISS won the Junior Rugby World Cup in England. In the field of sports, it has produced Olympians and Commonwealth Games medallists who have brought laurels to the country. It has gained the unique reputation of being a veritable sports hub in Odisha. Multilingual Education Programme As KISS saw appreciable enrolment, it began to offer education in mother tongue, respecting the indigenous people’s diversity and ethnicity. This was a small beginning yet revolutionary step in empowering and educating the indigenous kids. The institute adopted the Multilingual Education Programme in 2013 through an innovation sandbox approach to address the challenge of poor retention of indigenous students in elementary schools due to classroom language barriers and teachers' incapacity. The programme was implemented through a hybrid format with face-to-face and distance learning modules using low-tech solutions such as television, radio, and text messaging. The remarkable success of the programme was reflected by the fact that not only the KISS movement brought a perceptible change in the life of the indigenous population, but it has also helped in bringing back misguided youths who had joined the Left-Wing Extremism and taken up arms against the State. KISS has in its course of evolution and function, collaborated with various UN agencies and organs for the implementation of several initiatives related to education and empowerment. KISS has been in special consultative status with ECOSOC since 2015 and is affiliated with UNDPI. About KIIT: KISS is the constituent of KIIT, a Deemed-To-Be-University offering technical education in various verticals. The institute was founded in the early 1990s by Dr Samanta to offer quality technical education to students. The sprawling campus is now a veritable melting pot of nationalists, cultures and ethnicities and has the largest number of foreign students on any campus in Eastern India. The campus stands out for a fusion of unique architectures that represents the distinctiveness of the 23 individual Schools, offering courses in almost all engineering disciplines, besides medicine, management, rural management, law, architecture, biotechnology, fashion technology and other domains. The University boasts of countless talents who not only are celebrated names in their respective domains but are also contributing to the nation’s growth as successful bureaucrats, entrepreneurs and start-up leaders. The Education Ministry’s NIRF 2022 placed KIIT the 20th best university in the country, awarding high scores in parameters such as teaching, learning resources and graduation outcome. In the ‘outreach and inclusivity parameter’, the university got a score of 77.86. KIIT continues to innovate professional education in the country and set benchmarks in teaching, pedagogies and research outputs. Understanding Inherited Cancer Risk and Genetic Testing

YourUpdateTV

For certain cancers that disproportionally or exclusively affect women, like breast and ovarian cancer, there is a bias to focus on the mother’s side of the family tree in health conversations. And for many, especially previvors – people living at risk of a particular disease but not yet diagnosed – that seemed like enough. But as research has evolved and our understanding of inherited risk has deepened, it has become clearer that genetic risk on our dad’s side of the family can also increase an individual's breast and ovarian cancer risk. Recently, Cancer Previvor Jen Culton and Board-Certified Physician Assistant, Skyler Jesz, participated in a nationwide satellite media tour to discuss inherited risk from dad’s side of the family and some tips to help you take a proactive approach to your health. A video accompanying this announcement is available at: https://youtu.be/0cFRDhC4JHs A recent survey from Myriad Genetics,, a leader in genetic testing, underscores that dad’s side of the family is often overlooked, and much more: More than a third of women do not feel knowledgeable about their father's side of the family. Only 30% of women are very comfortable speaking with their father about their potential risk of getting breast or ovarian cancer, compared to 57% being very comfortable speaking about it with their mother. This is much lower in comparison to the almost 80% of women who consider themselves knowledgeable about their mother’s family health history. 48-year-old Jen Culton sought genetic testing in 2013 after her older sister’s breast cancer diagnosis to find out if she might be at risk. Results showed that she carries a BRCA1 gene mutation and is at increased risk of developing the disease. The news came as a surprise. Jen knew her mother’s health history and it didn’t include cancer. What she didn’t know then: her father’s family history of cancer; the gene mutation came from him. She used this information to take proactive measures to address her risk. For more information, visit myriad.com/knowyourrisk About Jen Culton: Jen Culton is a 48-year-old living previvor. She is at risk for breast and ovarian cancer and came to learn about it in unexpected and surprising ways. It began with her sister Mickey Marasco. Mickey was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013. Her doctors recommended she undergo genetic testing, and it was discovered that she carries a BRCA1 gene mutation. While undergoing cancer treatment, Mickey had one request: that all six of her siblings undergo genetic testing as well. The siblings went for testing together, and two of Mickey’s sisters (Jen being one of them) were also found to carry the same BRCA1 mutation. For Jen it came as a surprise. She knew her mother’s side did not have a history of cancer. Later she learned that her father’s side did and the gene mutations actually came from their father’s side of the family. But the family’s story doesn’t end there. Jen has three biological daughters – 26, 19, and 10 – who are now facing a similar reality. Genetic testing confirmed that Jen’s oldest daughter is not BRCA1 positive. Her second daughter, however, inherited the BRCA1 mutation from Jen, as well as an ATM gene mutation from her father. Her chances of developing cancer are extraordinarily higher than that of the average woman, up to 87% for breast cancer. With this knowledge, she’s ready to face what’s next, and is considering what proactive measures she should take for her health – just like her mom and her aunts, also BRCA1 positive who sought out proactive measures to manage their risks, and all three are now thriving. About Skyler Jesz, Board Certified Physician Assistant: Skyler Jesz is an Omaha native. She attended the College of Saint Mary, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She moved away from Omaha for the first time to attend the physician assistant program at Des Moines University in Des Moines, Iowa. Upon completion of the program, Skyler began her career in the primary care setting, working in a private family practice just outside of Omaha. After more than four years as a primary care provider, she transitioned to her current OBGYN setting. Skyler loves being part of a medical practice that puts patients first and uses the most up-to-date research and recommendations to provide comprehensive and compassionate care. She has a passion for preventative medicine, including genetics and cancer risk assessment. Contact Details YourUpdateTV +1 212-736-2727 yourupdatetv@gmail.com

How Climate Solutions are Helping Local Economies

YourUpdateTV

Billions of dollars in U.S. manufacturing investment are fueling the clean energy industry. But what does it mean for local economies? Recently, Dr. Sweta Chakraborty and Dr. Frances Colón participated in a nationwide satellite media tour to discuss how climate solutions can potentially create jobs, lower costs, and provide new opportunities for families to save money. A video accompanying this announcement is available at: https://youtu.be/HVqszCktUN4 The Inflation Reduction Act, signed into law last month, is the most significant climate bill in history. It will put our nation on the path to cutting pollution by 40% by 2030, create millions of good-paying clean energy jobs, invest in environmental justice, and reduce energy bills for working families across the country. With climate disasters directly impacting one in three American residents, the Inflation Reduction Act is a great first step to making sure communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis get the resources they need—and working families are able to save money. Since the passage of the IRA, billions of dollars in domestic manufacturing investments are fueling the clean energy industry. The Inflation Reduction Act incentivizes domestic manufacturing and as a result, First Solar, the United States’ largest solar manufacturer, announced its plan to invest $1.2 billion to expand its manufacturing capabilities. SPI Energy announced its plan to begin manufacturing solar wafers, a component of solar cells, in the US. Toyota recently announced that it plans to invest over $5 billion in creating electric batteries in US and Japan plants. And many more companies in the clean energy industry continue to expand and create jobs in the U.S. For more information about how these climate investments impact you, visit climatepower.us About Dr. Sweta Chakraborty: Dr. Chakraborty is a globally recognized risk and behavioral scientist and expert on global risks ranging from climate change to COVID-19. Sweta is the President of US Operations for We Don't Have Time. Sweta is a TEDx and SXSW featured speaker, most recently alongside Nikolaj Coster-Waldau for the UNDP’s #dontchooseextinction campaign, and is regularly interviewed on major, international news media outlets including CNN, the NYT, the BBC, Forbes, Fox News Channel, Sky News, CBS, NowThis, MSNBC to name a few. She has appeared on networks like Nickelodeon and Discovery+, where she was featured alongside Kamala Harris for an Earth Day 2021 special. Sweta has written extensively in peer-reviewed journals, is a book author from her time as a postdoc at Oxford University, and is currently working on her second book on adaptation to global risks. She has built her career around how to connect science, media and policy to change attitudes, empower audiences, and inspire action alongside celebrities like Questlove and Joaquin Phoenix. About Dr. Frances Colón: Frances Colón is the senior director for International Climate Policy at American Progress, where she leads a program to drive international ambition and action to meet global climate mitigation and adaptation goals. Colón is the former deputy science and technology adviser to the Secretary of State, where she promoted integration of science and technology into foreign policy dialogues, global advancement of women in science, and climate policy for former President Barack Obama’s Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas. EXCLUSIVE: CEO Of Edtech Company Amesite (NASDAQ: AMST) On Student Loan Forgiveness And More — “Loan Forgiveness Offers Some Relief Wanted… But We Know It Does Not Solve The Root Problems”

Amesite Inc.

Learn More about Amesite Inc. by gaining access to the latest research report Benzinga recently sat down with Ann Marie Sastry, CEO of emerging edtech company Amesite (NASDAQ: AMST), to discuss student loans and forgiveness, going too far with education reform, the future of education and more. Sastry shares, “We have to figure out how to distribute education and training so that we don’t break the bank. Given the advantages that college degrees confer, it would be crazy to end degree programs. But, we also need system-wide revisions when we are persistently generating huge amounts of debt in the delivery of skills… We have to address the root causes of the problem.” Sastry discussed the ongoing changes in society and the labor market, and how emerging trends will likely continue to disrupt and give reasons for workers across skill levels to continue their education journey. “Jobs are getting more and more technologically driven, and so if you have to go to Google to find a course for truck driving and platforms and logistics… you want to be able to go to a trusted source and buy that product. It’s about distribution channels, who has the trust, and who has the ability to distribute. Our university system has a great ability to distribute – if every university serves their own learners.” Sastry hammered home the point that many difficulties being faced are not always what they may seem, and that exorbitant marketing budgets to entice prospective learners toward a specific product may be contributing to high costs, and creating inefficiencies where there need not be any. Many universities are rightly afraid of trying to “boil the ocean” in offering professional programs, knowing that they will compete with bigger brands, established players, and private companies. A success model for the vast majority of universities is to focus on their own pre-college recruits, undergraduates and alumni, offering them programs that build skills that they know they need. To do this, they need to deliver a great experience on their own brands, delivered affordably and using marketing channels they already have. Amesite’s software powers institutions such as Wayne State University and its proprietary learning community called Warrior TechSource. The university reports a 98% retention rate across its programs and received positive user reviews in the first three years it worked with Amesite. In Sastry’s words, “Amesite enables these institutions to launch on their own brands, and utilize their own, third party or Amesite-created content, to assemble portfolios that meet learners’ real needs. When we look at what’s happened with student debt, and look at the different ways that universities can create sustainable revenue and deliver products that aren’t grossly expensive, one of the biggest ways is to cut down on marketing and focus on supporting the cohorts that they already have access to with learning products that are relevant and timely.” Upskilling In The Era Of Digital Transformation? “What we’re doing right now in society is not sustainable, and online is going to be the way that the vast majority of professionals will be upskilled… Just-in-time learning is the most important type of learning for society, and for US competitiveness” said Sastry. Technology has created new possibilities for people looking to learn new skills required for a new or challenging position. With good internet connectivity, anyone can enroll in an online course, certification, or degree program provided by platforms such as Coursera Inc. (NYSE: COUR), Udacity, edX and 2U Inc. (NASDAQ: TWOU). However, concerns about the quality of materials and instruction offered by these online course providers has seemingly also grown. Amesite reports disrupting the education technology (ed-tech) sector by bringing technology that might significantly help to improve the user experience through solving credibility and usability issues. “Amesite enables a change in the distribution model, instead of funding a huge degree of marketing… at the end of the day, you can deliver things at a small fraction of the cost. Our disruption in the business model doesn’t require that the infrastructure gets turned upside down, just like Uber and Lyft didn’t require that new roads get built.” To learn more about Amesite, visit https://clients.tradigitalir.com/amst/ Amesite Inc., an artificial intelligence driven platform and course designer, provides online products in the United States.
